kratak opis: Projekat je posvećen istraživanju fizičkih fenomena na kojima se zasnivaju fotonske komponente nove generacije, kvantifikovanju ovih fenomena kroz numeričko modelovanje i teorijsko-eksperimentalno ispitivanje njihovog uticaja na statičke i dinamičke performanse fotonskih komponenti i sistema, koji se baziraju na ovim komponentama. Ostvareni rezultati mogli bi naći svoju primenu u realizaciji novih rešenja u optičkim telekomunikacijama, alternativnim izvorima energije, optičkom međupovezivanju procesora, biosenzorima, ekologiji i u okviru drugih naučnih disciplina. Projekat sačinjavaju tri tipa komplementarnih istraživanja. Jedan deo aktivnosti posvećen je analizi i modelovanju elektronskih i optičkih osobina novih poluprovodničkih nanostruktura (kvantnih crta, tačaka i nanokolona), i ispitivanju njihove primene u koherentnim generatorima i detektorima fotona u bliskom, srednjem i dalekom delu infracrvenog spektra. Pored toga, biće analizirana primena nanokompozita i polimera u realizaciji nove generacije fotodetektora i solarnih ćelija. Drugi deo aktivnosti tiče se unapređenja medijuma prenosa fotonskih signala i to plastičnih multimodnih optičkih vlakana i integrisanih talasovoda. U okviru trećeg dela, razmatraju se protokoli i optimizacioni algoritmi, koji omogućavaju povezivanje fotonskih komponenata u pristupne i transportne optičke telekomunikacione mreže, koje zadovoljavaju uslove minimalne blokade fotonskih paketa i očuvanje kvaliteta servisa u mreži.
