COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course introduces students into fundamental principles of quantum mechanical interaction of photon and atomic systems, which can be extended to general knowledge in the interaction of electromagnetic field with material, concepts of optical gain, spontaneous and stimulated emission, their relation to susceptibility and light propagation in anisotropic media.
WHY THIS COURSE?
Gaining theoretical basis and adopting methods used in the further study of active and passive optoelectronic and electro-optical components and subsystems, which are used in optical communications, fiber-optic sensors, laser technology, materials science, biophotonics, nanophotonics and photonics in general.
